Budget iPhone expected to use iPhone 5 Retina display
Author: Unknown // Category:If there’s one thing that Apple is good at it’s retaining large profit margins on the hardware it ships. And that’s certainly the case for the iPhone. But with Apple expected to rollout a budget iPhone soon in a bid to expand its market, some components have got to change. However, the display doesn’t look to be on of them.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, a known reliable source for Apple hardware predictions, has stated that the budget iPhone will use the same 4-inch panel found in the iPhone 5. What will change, though, is the phone casing, which is set to be a mix of plastic and glass fiber. We can also expect the smartphone to be a lot more colorful, with a prediction it will come in a number of colors (up to 6) just like the iPod range.
What’s interesting is that Apple has apparently been planning a budget iPhone since 2011, and it will finally arrive this year. This also begs the question of whether or not Apple will purposefully make theiPhone 5S look different to distinguish it from the cheaper version? That seems unlikely as ‘S’ model iPhones typically don’t change in appearance over the previous model. So you’ll likely only be able to tell up close and by holding both phones.
While other manufacturers are pushing for larger displays in handsets, the iPhone 5/S is going to look comparatively small by the time we get 2014 and the inevitable iPhone 6. At that point, if a budget iPhone has been on the market several months, Apple may choose to split the two handsets–making the premium model available with a larger display while retaining the 4-inch display for budget model.
